Specialist UPVC door repair and locking hardware

Support for UPVC and compatible composite door systems.

UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEM

A door should close
without a struggle.

Hinges, frame keeps, handles, the key cylinder and the multipoint mechanism all play a part in how your door works. A fault in one area can put extra pressure on another.

If the handle needs force or you have to pull the door to turn the key, arrange a check. An adjustment may solve the problem, but worn hardware or a failing gearbox may also need attention.

Don’t force it. A stiff handle is an early warning. Continuing to pull harder can put unnecessary strain on the mechanism.

REPAIRS & REPLACEMENT PARTS

Specialist care for every working part.

We check the cause of the fault and the compatibility of any replacement parts before recommending work.

PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE

Look after your door.
Once a year.

Regular use, settling and seasonal movement can change how a door meets its frame. When locking points no longer line up comfortably, the handle and gearbox can take extra load.

We recommend an annual service to check operation, identify wear and make minor adjustments where needed. If a problem develops between services, book an assessment sooner.

ClosingCheck for catching and rubbing.
LockingCheck the handle and key operate correctly.
HardwareLook for accessible wear or loose parts.

Servicing helps identify issues early. It cannot guarantee that a worn component will not fail.

A SENSIBLE DECISION

When to repair. When to replace.

The condition of the door and frame, available parts and the cost of a lasting repair should guide the decision.

REPAIR MAY BE THE RIGHT CHOICE

The door is sound.
A component needs attention.

  • The frame and door are structurally sound.
  • Alignment or a specific hardware fault is the main issue.
  • Compatible replacement parts are available.

For example: a catching door may need alignment; a floppy handle may point to a handle component or gearbox fault. Both need proper diagnosis.

LOOK AT THE WIDER CONDITION

Damage or repeated faults
make repairs less practical.

  • The door is substantially warped or the frame is cracked.
  • Several locking components are badly worn.
  • Compatible parts are unavailable, or repairs keep recurring.

A replacement mechanism may still be enough. Where the door itself is beyond a sensible repair, a door supplier assessment may be appropriate.

BETWEEN VISITS

Simple care.
Better everyday operation.

Small changes in how a door feels are often worth investigating. Don’t wait for the locking system to jam.

Ask about maintenance ↗
  1. Close gently

Avoid slamming the door or forcing the handle. If operation changes, arrange a check.

  2. Keep it clean

Use mild soapy water and a soft cloth on frames and seals. Keep the threshold and visible drainage openings free of debris.

  3. Lubricate appropriately

Follow the door and lock manufacturer’s instructions. Avoid indiscriminately spraying oil into the cylinder or gearbox.

  4. Notice changes early

Look for loose handles, scraping, new draughts or a key that is becoming harder to turn. Leave adjustments to a competent person if you are unsure.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Helpful answers.

What does the £55 annual service include?

A door service, minor adjustments where needed, with operation and accessible hardware checks. Parts and larger repairs are quoted separately. Contact us to confirm local eligibility and the scope for your door.

My door locks when open but struggles when closed. Why?

This may indicate alignment or engagement problems, although the mechanism still needs checking. Avoid forcing the handle or experimenting with the locking system while the door is shut.

Does a floppy handle mean I need a new door?

Not necessarily. A handle component or gearbox may have failed, and a compatible replacement may resolve the fault. We check the underlying cause before recommending work.

Can you help if the door will not open or secure?

Call to discuss the fault and urgent availability. We assess suitable entry and repair options, using non-destructive methods where the lock and circumstances allow.

Do you work on composite doors?

We assess compatible composite door locking systems and hardware. Tell us the symptoms and send a photograph where possible so we can check the options.

A stiff door is worth checking.

Book a service or describe the fault. If the property cannot be secured, please call to discuss urgent availability.
